Hidden Gully
A highly technical route requiring multi pitch ice climbing and mandatory rappels to ski from the top. One of the most complex ski lines in Vermont, Hidden Gully is rarely skied from the top.
Recommended kit. Rope (80m is ideal, 60m mandatory) 3-8 ice screws, 3-8 draws. Two sets of anchor material, double length sling, prusik cord, your preferred belay/rappel device.
From near the base of Cass’s Gully, locate a faint drainage to lookers right. Steep kick turns or boot packing lead to a narrow couloir in the rock wall, which is the start of ice climbing. The lower gully can be run as a 40-50m pitch of WI2 and snow to a stand of yellow birches, which provide lots of belay options. From there, another long section of snow leads to a narrow WI3 pitch in a beautiful notch.
