Maine Coast Bike Tour
Maine Coast Bike Tour
Freeport, ME to Kittery, ME
~75 miles ~1,775ft gain, ~1850ft descent Really great views and beaches along this route. This is some of the more tourist-y parts of the trip and has good shops and resteraunts along the way. As well as plenty of places to camp or find a hotel. Can easily be extended into Portsmouth, NH.
Rockport, ME to Freeport, ME
~66 miles ~3200ft gain, ~3200ft descent Really great biking with good views and some classic landmarks. Ending near the LL Bean HQ which is a must see and a Maine institution. This section could easily be extended to finish in Falmouth or Portland.
Penobscot, ME to Rockport, ME
~47 miles ~2,500ft gain, ~2,775ft descent Some seriously punchy climbs in this section. Once you leave Belfast you hit a big climb that is only followed by Camden Hills State Park which adds quite the hills. Ending in Camden, Rockport, or Rockland is fantastic and these towns are the epitome of classic Maine.
Columbia Falls, ME to East Orland, ME
~81 miles ~3,300ft gain, ~3,000ft descent This is an amazing ride through some of the best that coastal Maine has to offer. The option is there to just follow route 1 but taking the Winter Harbor ferry to Bar Harbor is an experience in itself. And you can visit Maine's only national park, Acadia. Not much vertical until the end, but the possibility is definitely viable to end in Bucksport.
Calais, ME to Columbia Falls, ME
~70 miles ~2,700ft gain, ~2,800ft descent Steep gains can be difficult. Gorgeous blueberry fields and Maine towns. Goes along the Down East Sunrise Trail but is very doable on road bikes.
